WELCOME - Counselling, Psychotherapy and Supervision in Teddington, Hampton Hill, Twickenham, Richmond and Kingston

I am closing my Orange Tree, Teddington practice in July 2020 as I am moving out of the area. I should be pleased to discuss how I can help you with your short term counselling requirements but I do not have places for longer term therapy

Thank you for visiting my website. Here is some information to help you decide if you would like to contact me.

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist and have worked in Teddington, Hampton Wick, Twickenham, Richmond and Kingston for over 10 years. I work with individual adults and couples. I am also a clinical supervisor providing support to other counsellors and psychotherapists. Currently I volunteer as a supervisor at The West London Counselling Centre.

There are many different approaches to counselling and these may be accessed through private counsellors, Employee Assistance Programmes, Health Care providers and the NHS. They all have benefits and limitations. Choosing the best approach for you may be confusing. Feeling safe with your counsellor is one of the most important facets of counselling. Indeed outcome research suggests it is the therapeutic relationship which makes a difference.

After training as a counsellor, I trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist, which means that my training is broad covering approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic and Humanistic. At the core of my approach is a belief that relationships, from the earliest to the present, make a qualitative difference to life. Relationships, including those with ourselves, can be experienced as comforting and joyful as well as harmful and frightening. Our bodies respond. When we are at our best we may experience a full range of emotions including sadness, anger, jealousy, guilt, joy and love and use them as support. Some people find this hard to believe that their feelings can be helpful. The alternatives of ignoring them may lead to symptoms such as anxiety, feeling overstimulated, feeling stuck and leave us just barely getting through the day. Through counselling and psychotherapy you have an opportunity to feel well and engaged with life.

As your therapist I aspire to listen carefully to what you say, express my curiosity in exploring your troubles so I can fully understand and, sometimes, I will be challenging to help you make choices for your life. I aim to work professionally, safely and at a pace you can manage. My hope for you as one of my clients is that you will learn about yourself, gain a deeper understanding of your problems and struggles and make decisions that are healthy and supportive of your overall wellbeing. There is an opportunity for you to heal the past, if appropriate, fully live in the present and feel more confident that you will manage the future and its uncertainties.

Here are some of the reasons why people in Teddington, Hampton Hill, Twickenham, Richmond and Kingston have contacted me:

  • Depression and low mood
  • Anxiety and fear of the unknown
  • Early childhood abuse
  • Anger
  • Stress
  • Unwanted addictive behaviours such as compulsive eating, use of alcohol
  • Stuck at a significant life stage through loss or absence e.g. loved one, career
  • Emotional overwhelm or underwhelm
  • Feeling disconnected or at odds within a couple relationship
  • Trainees on a counselling or psychotherapy course
  • Personal development and curiosity

As a counsellor and psychotherapist working with your thoughts, feelings, behaviour and reflections, you may feel increased control to lead a more fulfilling life than you imagined possible.

As one of my client said to me
'What I have learned in therapy will stay with me for the rest of my life'

Here are some considerations for you:

I enjoy variety in my life so have developed a therapeutic practice which incorporates opportunities to work with people in different ways, including a traditional therapeutic setting at the Orange Tree Clinic in Teddington , using nature to enhance the therapeutic experience by working outdoors, walking and talking, in a local park and for others who are at home or overseas we can speak using the internet or telephone.

You may be looking for short term counselling for some space to express yourself, learn some coping strategies and manage your symptoms. Alternatively, you may be looking for an open ended arrangement so you can build up to diving into deeper psychological work. These are both possible.

My experience with couples is that most want to come for a short time to express their distress, communicate better with each other and, in some cases, decide if they want to stay together. Be prepared for homework, it is likely to help!

Living locally in Teddington you may see me about in the high street, in the parks or by the river. With respect for your confidentiality we agree at the outset how to handle these situations should they arise.

    And for supervisees:

I completed my supervision training at the Metanoia Institute, where I trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist. I am currently a Supervisor at the West London Centre for Counselling. I have worked for an Employee Assistance Programme as a Case Manager. Prior to training as a psychotherapist I had a long career in people management, which included training and development.

Here is what you can do next:

If you are living in Teddington, Hampton Wick, Twickenham, Richmond and Kingston and think I could help you as an individual client, a couple or supervisee, please:

Call me on 0208 255 0678 or Email me at

We can arrange an assessment session and discuss how I may help you. By attending an assessment there is no commitment to work together. It is an exploration to see what is possible. Please see Individual Counselling & Psychotherapy and Couples Counselling for details of fees.

I am an advocate of counselling and psychotherapy, having personally benefited from different types, and I’m very happy to answer any questions you may have.

At any one time I have three low cost open ended psychotherapy places in Teddington for people struggling with life and money. Please don’t let money get in the way of contacting me. I may just have a place.
